ArmInfo. The Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Alen Simonyan, has ruled out the possibility of post-election unrest, asserting that elections in Armenia have been conducted fairly and freely since 2018.
Simonyan made these remarks to journalists on June 7 after casting his ballot at a polling station, where he arrived accompanied by his daughter. He emphasized that he voted for a peaceful, prosperous, and open Armenia for his children to live in.
The Parliamentary Speaker expressed confidence that the opposition would suffer a defeat and permanently exit politics. When asked by journalists whether he was prepared to transition into the opposition should his own political force lose, Simonyan stated that he possessed such readiness, given his past experience. However, the politician emphasized that the current opposition had failed to adapt to its role after losing power.
"Without power, they turn into limbless, voiceless entities. They are incapable of achieving anything in politics and cannot even show up for debates. These are cowardly people," Simonyan said, expressing conviction that only a very small number of voters would choose to vote for the past.
