50 locations with serious drainage problems inventoried in Yerevan

ArmInfo.  Fifty locations with serious drainage problems have been inventoried in Yerevan. This was announced by Arsen Karoyan, Head of the Yerevan Municipality's Public Utilities Department, during a working meeting on April 13.

He noted that funding has already been secured for two of these  locations, and work to address the problem will begin soon. One of  these is the area adjacent to the Yerablur military pantheon in the  Malatia-Sebastia administrative district. Karoyan also reported on  the critical situation on Gyurjyan Street (Nor-Nork district), where  an impassable mud lake had formed, forcing drivers to call the rescue  service to have their vehicles towed. The head of the department  explained that soil and rocks flowing down the slopes had again  clogged the storm drain systems, causing the collapse. Following  negotiations with Armenia's water operator, Veolia, an on-site  investigation will be conducted, and the number of storm drain  systems will likely be increased.

As a reminder, according to a statement from the Rescue Service of  the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, starting at 11:40 PM on  April 12, the 112 emergency response center of the Ministry of  Internal Affairs began receiving reports of vehicles stuck in water  due to heavy rain on Sevan and Gyurjyan Streets in Yerevan. "A rescue  team from the Special Operations and Rescue Center of the Rescue  Forces Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a combat  team from the Fire and Rescue Service of the Yerevan City Rescue  Department were dispatched to the scene. Rescuers who arrived at the  scene pulled vehicles from the flooded areas," the department said in  a statement, without specifying the exact number of damaged vehicles.  However, judging by video footage posted on social media by citizens,  there were more than a dozen vehicles on Gyurjyan Street alone.

It should also be noted that citizens have been raising concerns  about water accumulation on Gyurjyan Street for at least three years  now.
