The Press Service of the National Assembly of Armenia presented details of the meeting between the Speakers of the Parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Alen Simonyan and Sahiba Gafarova, which took place on April 17 in Istanbul on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
During the meeting, recent developments in the normalization of relations between the two countries were noted with satisfaction, including steps aimed at strengthening peace and stability, as well as establishing and expanding trade ties.
The role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union as an important platform for inter-parliamentary cooperation was emphasized. In this context, the parties highly appreciated and expressed gratitude to the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungung, for his personal efforts to establish dialogue between the Speakers of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Parliaments.
The speakers commended the contacts between the parliamentary delegations within international organizations that began after their meeting in Geneva in October 2025 and agreed to continue these contacts.
The Speakers of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Parliaments emphasized the importance of continuing constructive parliamentary dialogue to further strengthen trust between the two societies.
