Bright Armenia proposes nominating clergyman for country`s presidency

ArmInfo.  The Bright Armenia party, which plans to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections in a coalition with political commentator Karpis Pashoyan,  is proposing nominating a member of the clergy for the country's  presidency. Edmon Marukyan, leader of the Bright Armenia party,  announced this at the party's congress on April 18.

He stated that, as the opposition unites, the position of president  of Armenia could be filled by a member of the clergy, because the  position is currently not an executive one, lacking executive  leverage and based on authority and representative powers.

"In this case, we needed a president with authority to strengthen the  institution, because it is the individual who strengthens the  institution in situations like these. The Bright Armenia Party states  that we propose that the post of President of the Republic be filled  by a member of the clergy, one of our archbishops, Mikael Ajapahyan  (head of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church - ed.).  His candidacy was put forward during the impeachment process, when  the opposition had already strengthened, and we see him as someone  who can unite the opposition," Marukyan stated.

He also announced that their political force will not compete for the  prime minister's seat and will conduct an unconventional election  campaign. "We will not be guided by such desires and passions. We are  saying, dear people, a parliament will be formed, there will be  deputies, decide what kind of deputies you want to see. If you like  the parliament of the last five years, then you know what to do. But  I am sure you don't like it, which is why I have entered this process  with my application," the leader of the political force concluded.
