ArmInfo. Why should an Armenian citizen constantly worry about security? This is the question Robert Kocharyan, Armenia's second president and prime ministerial candidate from the Armenia bloc, addressed to the residents of Masis.
Recalling his presidency, which was filled with numerous meetings, he noted that no one asked about security. "To be honest, that topic didn't exist back then because security was simply there," the former president noted. "People were certain that their main problems were jobs and other social issues, but no one had to ask if they were safe."
According to Kocharyan, every person in Armenia with a son of military age, lives in a constant fear regarding their child's fate during the military service. He noted that people begin to think about security when the country's leader stops thinking about it. "It's a very simple formula. And I say this as someone who has been responsible for the country, and now I'm simply sharing these impressions," Kocharyan said.
According to the second president, the current authorities are constantly trying to persuade people that the country is in danger and at risk of war. Reflecting on his own election campaigns, Kocharyan noted that he never suggested an opposition victory would trigger a war. "By making such statements, you destroy your own country just to potentially gain a few extra votes," he stated, adding that if a leader warns of war 100 times, on the 101st time, it may actually become reality. "Therefore, the people must choose a leader, a political force that will think about security for them and is capable of ensuring that security," he concluded.
