ArmInfo. The essence of the 8th European Political Community summit, which will take place in Yerevan in a few days, may fundamentally change if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attends Armenia. This is the view of political scientist Vahe Hovhannisyan, a member of the Alternative Projects group.
In his article, the political scientist notes that this was undoubtedly a key event in Nikol Pashinyan's plans for his election campaign.
"This was planned, this was discussed, this is what was intended. After his unexpected visit to Azerbaijan on April 25, there is a very high probability that Zelensky will also come to Yerevan. And this will significantly change both the depth and the PR content of the Yerevan event. Oddly enough, Pashinyan personally will suffer the most from Zelensky's possible visit to this event. Zelensky's arrival in Yerevan means that he will become the main player, with his image, his war, and the objective state of greater attractiveness to Europe," the political scientist noted.
In his opinion, Zelensky's arrival in Yerevan will mean turning Armenia into the epicenter of anti-Russian sentiment for several days, which will openly irritate at least three neighboring states - Iran, Georgia, and even Turkey. If Zelensky does come to Yerevan as part of the 8th European Political Community Summit and participate in its work, the atmosphere around and within Armenia will change. "Russia's reaction won't be delayed. Moscow is in a direct war with Ukraine, and if anti-Russian sentiments emerge, especially calls for the creation of new anti-Russian strongholds, it will take certain countermeasures, which Armenian voters will also feel. European leaders are deeply indifferent to the potential consequences for Armenia; we've seen this with our own eyes over the past five or six years. Zelenskyy is unlikely to miss the opportunity to gain publicity in front of the European Community, and the European elite will happily stage anti-Russian demonstrations in Yerevan. What will Armenia gain from all this-new problems? The paradox is that, given this "timeline," if the main player changes, Pashinyan won't benefit either. After their fine, pointed speeches, they will retreat to their own countries to deal with their most serious domestic problems. We, however, will face a new reality with a high potential for tension, and consequently, some changes in domestic sentiment," Vahe Hovhannisyan concluded.
Let us remind you that the European Political Community summit will be held in Yerevan on May 4.
