ArmInfo. If the current pace of reconstruction and construction of Yerevan's sewage system is maintained, all existing problems will be completely resolved within 5-6 years. Mayor Tigran Avinyan assured this during a meeting of the Yerevan Council of Elders on May 7.
If negotiations with the government succeed in accelerating the program's implementation, he noted that the work could be completed ahead of schedule.
Avinyan reported that an inventory revealed the need to build 93 km of sewage networks in several city neighborhoods. In addition, 73 km of sewage networks located in the courtyards of apartment buildings require reconstruction. The mayor also noted that repairs to the drainage systems had started somewhat late. However, he said work is planned for two priority problem areas this year.
"This is becoming part of our programmatic agenda, and the entire system will be modernized in the foreseeable future," Avinyan emphasized.
