ArmInfo. For the Republic of Armenia, participation in the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly as an observer is an important step, reflecting the Armenian state's commitment to peace, democracy, mutual respect, sovereignty, and international cooperation. This was stated by Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan, speaking at the first summit of speakers of parliaments of the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly and partner countries.
According to his words, as quoted by the NA press service, Armenia views this platform as an opportunity to deepen cooperation with international partners, contribute to regional stability, and actively participate in discussions shaping the future of the region.
"Armenia has undergone significant transformations in recent years. Since 2018, Armenia has implemented large-scale democratic and institutional reforms aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and combating corruption. Today, Armenia ranks among the world's leading countries in terms of democratic development and press freedom. International organizations continue to recognize the progress achieved. Much has been done to strengthen democratic institutions and public administration. At the same time, Armenia is demonstrating sustainable economic growth. In recent years, our country has recorded one of the highest economic growth rates in the world. This economic progress has allowed Armenia to make significant investments in infrastructure, education, science, and technology," the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly noted.
He added that hundreds of schools and kindergartens are being built or completely renovated across Armenia as part of state programs. Armenia is also investing heavily in science and innovation, including the creation of artificial intelligence facilities and supercomputer centers, providing additional capacity for the global economy. Armenia is currently among the top ten countries in the world in computing power per capita and continues to grow rapidly in this area.
At the same time, Arshakyan emphasized that the peace process in the South Caucasus remains one of Armenia's top priorities. Following the signing of the agreement by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States in 2025, peace has reigned in the region. "This is a historic achievement and an important opportunity for long-term regional stability. We also note the ongoing dialogue between the heads of parliament of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is an important factor in strengthening trust and promoting the normalization of relations between our countries," the Deputy Speaker said.
