ArmInfo. Armenia will celebrate International Museum Day on May 18th, and the pan-European "Night of Museums" event will take place on May 16th, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport.
According to the source, on May 16th, many Armenian museums will be open to visitors free of charge until late at night (from 11:00 AM to midnight) and will present a special cultural program. Specifically, visitors will be able to explore museum collections in a new format, participate in interactive events, and enjoy a rich cultural atmosphere.
On May 18th, museums will operate according to their regular schedule. The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MESCS) announced that this year's International Museum Day will be celebrated under the theme "Museums Uniting a Divided World," emphasizing the key role of museums as platforms for cultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and the preservation and transmission of universal values.
"By joining this international initiative, Armenian museums will organize a variety of events—exhibitions, educational programs, master classes, public discussions, and special tours—designed for visitors of all ages and interests," the MESCS statement reads. International Museum Day was established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) with the aim of uniting museums around global challenges facing society and humanity, as well as raising public awareness of the vital role of museums. The "Night of Museums" program was launched in 2005 at the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication with the support of ICOM, UNESCO, and the Council of Europe. Armenia joined the pan-European "Night of Museums" event in 2005.
