ArmInfo. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal case against the nephew of Strong Armenia party leader Narek Karapetyan for concealing information that would prevent him from obtaining or maintaining public office.
As reported by the Investigative Committee's press service, according to a report of an alleged crime received from the police of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, candidate N.K., nominated by the "Strong Armenia" bloc in the regular elections to the RA National Assembly on June 7, 2026, having been warned of the legal penalties for providing false information, intentionally concealed information about his foreign citizenship. Specifically, he submitted a false application to the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stating that he was not a citizen of another country, thereby concealing information about his foreign citizenship that would prevent him from obtaining official status.
Based on the report, a criminal case has been opened under Part 1 of Article 449 of the Criminal Code (concealment of information that prevents him from obtaining or maintaining official status).
A preliminary investigation is underway.
Narek Karapetyan previously denied holding dual citizenship. "I am not a citizen of the Russian Federation. I have no other citizenship besides the Republic of Armenia, and I never have," he stated in a video message, commenting on a post on the Facebook page of Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan-specifically, an extract from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities of the Russian Federation, where N.K. is listed as a Russian citizen.
Karapetyan noted that he lived in Russia for much less time than, for example, in England or Switzerland. "Therefore, Alen Robertovich, don't do such things," Karapetyan said, addressing Simonyan.
It should be noted that the extract from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities of the Russian Federation, a document whose authenticity has not been officially confirmed, contains data as of August 2020 and states that Russian citizen Narek Karenovich Karapetyan owns a 2.5% stake in Mospromekspluatatsiya.
