ArmInfo. President Donald Trump publicly endorsed Armenian Nikol Pashinyan ahead of Armenia's June 7, 2026 elections in a post published on Truth Social, praising him as "a great friend and leader" and voicing support for his re-election.
The endorsement follows recent public backing from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio just days ago, as well as supportive remarks made months earlier by U.S. Vice President JD Vance regarding Pashinyan and his government.
In his statement, Trump said Pashinyan shares his vision of "peace and prosperity" for Armenia and the South Caucasus, while also claiming Rubio recently traveled to Armenia to advance "important deals" between the two countries.
Trump further announced plans for the United States and Armenia to soon break ground on what he called the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity," which he said would connect the South Caucasus and Central Asia while expanding access for American energy companies.
Trump concluded the statement by giving Pashinyan his "complete and total endorsement" for the June 7 election, ending with the slogan: "Make (Armenia) Great Again - MAGA!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Expert Suren Sargsyan has already commented on the situation, stating that the US has never before so openly expressed support for any candidate during an electoral process.
He noted that Trump posted a message on his social media page on the eve of the Armenian elections. "Before Trump came to power, this was a rare occurrence in American politics. Typically, US presidents are cautious about interfering in other countries' elections or supporting a particular candidate, and even when they do, they do so subtly and indirectly (for example, Obama or Bush Jr.). Unlike previous presidents, Trump directly supported Pashinyan, just as he would support any US senator or governor. Incidentally, Trump openly said the same thing I did yesterday. The goal of all this, according to him, is to export Central Asian resources through TRIPP, which is one of the Trump administration's priorities in the South Caucasus," the expert wrote on his Facebook page.
