ArmInfo.Yerevan has not yet responded to Russia's decision to restrict the import of certain vegetables from Armenia, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"No, it has not," he told reporters when asked whether Armenia had responded, according to Vedomosti.
Starting May 30, Rosselkhoznadzor (the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) will impose temporary restrictions on the import of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, green vegetables, and strawberries from Armenia. The reason cited is the increasing violation of phytosanitary regulations.
Since the beginning of the year, 181 cases of contamination by quarantine organisms have been detected in imported Armenian fruit and vegetable products, the agency said in a statement. An inspection by Rosselkhoznadzor (the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) from May 21 to 27 confirmed systematic violations in greenhouse complexes. The Armenian agency has failed to address the previously identified violations.
