ArmInfo. On May 26, the leader of the "Strong Armenia" party, Samvel Karapetyan, filed a second lawsuit against the ruling Civil Contract party and the Public Television of Armenia (PTA) for defamation.
According to a report posted in the Datalex legal documents system, Karapetyan, basing his claim on the grounds presented in the lawsuit and pursuant to Articles 121 and 122 of the Civil Procedure Code of Armenia, demanded that the PTA and the ruling party be compelled to refute, within three days of the court's decision, the information contained in a video published by the Public Television regarding him, which is considered defamatory. The lawsuit was filed on May 25 but was returned to the plaintiff. It was refiled on May 26.
As explained in the lawsuit, PTA published a campaign video from the Civil Contract party, which disseminated false information regarding the chairman of the Strong Armenia party. "We inform you that the statements made about Samvel Karapetyan regarding him being an 'oligarch,' 'creating a party of three war leaders,' 'deceiving the people,' 'intimidation,' 'buying votes to come to power,' 'inciting war,' 'destroying Armenia's independence,' and 'foreign espionage' are completely false and do not correspond to reality," the lawsuit states.
In connection with this, Karapetyan demanded a public apology for the insult to his dignity and good reputation. "The following is to be established as the text of the apology: 'The Civil Contract party's pre- election campaign video, published by the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, contained statements addressed to the chairman of the Strong Armenia party, Samvel Karapetyan, which tarnished his honor and dignity, for which we apologize to Samvel Karapetyan,' the lawsuit concludes.
