ArmInfo. On the night before the elections, two chairpersons and a secretary of electoral commissions were detained, as stated by Vahagn Hovakimyan, Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), to journalists on June 7.
In total, as he noted, 50 commission members were absent at the start of the voting process across 48 out of 2,005 polling stations.
Hovakimyan said that the reasons vary—some are related to health conditions, others to the passing of relatives, and so on. "These are all natural processes that are always managed," said the head of the CEC.
It is worth noting that, according to data from the Migration Service of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, just under 2.5 million citizens are eligible to vote. Eighteen political forces are participating in the elections—two alliances and 16 parties.
