ArmInfo. The National Democratic Pole Party (NDP) has called on citizens and political forces in Armenia to prevent a flagrant violation of law and democracy, and through joint efforts, thwart steps toward a seizure of power and the establishment of a dictatorship in the country.
According to a statement received by ArmInfo, the party was responding to the preliminary results of the regular parliamentary elections in Armenia, held on June 7, according to which Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract Party received the most votes. Meanwhile, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) noted that on June 8 at around 2:00 AM—just a few hours after the conclusion of voting—Pashinyan declared that his party had already won, despite the fact that the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia had calculated and published data representing only 10% of the total vote at that moment.
"At around 2:00 AM, when the CEC of Armenia had published data for only 10% of the participating voters—amounting to roughly 145,000 votes, of which data from six polling stations in Yerevan constituted a mere 3,350 votes—Nikol Pashinyan, who holds the office of Prime Minister, declared that his party had won the election and secured a majority. Furthermore, he began claiming that his party had received more votes than in the previous parliamentary elections," the NDP noted in its statement.
This statement, as the political force noted, came at a time when the main election results had not yet been summarized, reports of violations during the electoral process had not yet been investigated, and the processes for possible appeals and recounts had not yet been completed. Moreover, the body constitutionally empowered to announce the final election results, the Central Election Commission, had not yet issued any official conclusion. "Meanwhile, the authority to determine and publish election results in the Republic belongs exclusively to the CEC. No official has the right to provide a definitive assessment of the people's will or to announce election results at their own discretion. The citizens of the Republic of Armenia are the sole representatives of the people's will, and election results can only be certified in accordance with the procedure established by law," the political force emphasized.
In this regard, the NDP condemned this practice during the parliamentary elections in Armenia and noted that it views it as yet another anti-democratic step aimed at undermining the authority of state institutions, exerting pressure on the electoral process, and maintaining power. "We call on the citizens and political forces of Armenia to prevent such a flagrant violation of the law and democracy, and to jointly prevent this step toward a seizure of power and the establishment of a dictatorship in Armenia. The Republic of Armenia is not the private property of a single individual, and the voice of the people cannot be pre- emptively privatized as a trophy by one man," the NDP concluded.
