ArmInfo. Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan, commented on cases of military personnel voting at polling stations after 8:00 PM, when the same polling stations were supposed to be closed.
In a conversation with journalists on June 9, the general noted that, according to current legislation, citizens present at a polling station after 8:00 PM have the right to fulfill their civic duty. "This provision applies to everyone, and military personnel are no exception," said Edward Asryan.
When asked why the soldiers were brought to the polling station late in this case, the Chief of the General Staff pointed to the nature of their service, which prevented them from leaving their duty station early. It's worth noting that footage of soldiers voting in groups at polling stations after 8:00 PM has circulated online.
As a reminder, parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on June 7. With 100% of ballots counted, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party received 49.83% of the vote. Second place went to the Strong Armenia party, affiliated with Russian businessman Samvel Karapetyan, which received 23.28% of the vote. The Armenia bloc, led by former President Robert Kocharyan, secured the support of 9.93%.
