ArmInfo. The parliamentary elections of June 7, 2026, took place amid widespread violations of the law, repression, violence, violations of all possible and impossible legal and moral norms by the person holding the post of prime minister, public threats, arrests, and persecution of the opposition. This is stated in a statement by the Mother Armenia party.
The political party emphasized that all of this is also confirmed by the statement of OSCE observers, who recorded instances of fabricated, politically motivated, and illegal cases against opposition figures, which resulted in an unequal playing field. Mother Armenia noted that the same observers' statement stated that numerous and varied criminal cases were opened against opposition figures and their supporters during the election campaign, which led to a significant decline in the activity of the opposition sector of society and created an unequal playing field for the election campaign.
"These elections were unprecedented in the degree of involvement of external forces, including foreign intelligence services. These forces openly and directly supported the authorities, drawing Armenia into a maelstrom of geopolitical conflicts.
The Mother Armenia Party fully agrees with the assessments of international observers, as just two weeks before the elections, a fabricated criminal case was brought against Mother Armenia Party Chairman Andranik Tevanyan with the aim of disrupting his election campaign and isolating one of the main ideological and political opponents of the current government. Tevanyan is second on the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) electoral list. With this move, the government also hindered the PAP election campaign. Furthermore, fabricated charges were brought against four members of the PAP electoral list," the political party added.
Mother Armenia expressed confidence that a similar management style was applied to other opposition members as well. As a result, the arrest of hundreds of opposition activists before and on election day significantly reduced the opposition sector's activity, virtually eliminating a level playing field between the ruling government and opposition political groups.
"We note that all of the aforementioned comments impacted the outcome of the elections and cannot be considered legitimate: fair, free, and competitive. We call on all public and political figures to provide a political assessment of the elections and the current situation and take joint steps to establish legitimacy in Armenia," Mother Armenia concluded.
As a reminder, parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on June 7, 2026. Voter turnout was 58.97%. According to preliminary data from Armenia's Central Election Commission, Nikol Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract party, Samvel Karapetyan's Strong Armenia bloc, and second president Robert Kocharyan's Armenia bloc have all entered parliament. The remaining candidates scored below the required threshold of 4% for parties and 8-10% for blocs. Notably, businessman Gagik Tsarukyan's Prosperous Armenia party lost its 4% threshold after the Central Election Commission adjusted the preliminary vote counts for the June 7 parliamentary elections. Therefore, the party will not be included in the new parliament.
It should be noted that from early morning on election day, observers and journalists reported numerous violations by the ruling party during the voting process. Thus, Pashinyan's party has the opportunity to single-handedly form the country's government by securing a majority of seats in Armenia's parliament. This was announced solemnly by Pashinyan himself, late at night, when data from only about 10% of polling stations had been processed.
