ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that if the CSTO decides to expel the country from the organization, Yerevan will take it into account. He made this statement during a briefing with journalists on June 11.
"I cannot comment on matters related to the CSTO. But I know that there is a mechanism for expelling a country from the organization, and it is in effect. If CSTO members make such a decision, we will be forced to take it into account," the Armenian Prime Minister said.
That days earlier, the CSTO countries agreed to consider applying the relevant article of the organization's charter to Armenia due to Yerevan's failure to pay its dues for more than two years.
In this regard, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that their Armenian counterparts have not attended events for over two years. Meanwhile, cooperation is actively expanding, military exercises are underway, military equipment is being purchased, and military delegations are being exchanged with both NATO and the EU, which is currently transforming into a militarized structure.
As a reminder, Armenia has been boycotting CSTO events since late 2022. In February 2024, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia had effectively frozen its participation in the CSTO, as the organization had failed to fulfill its obligations to Armenia, which could not go without consequences. And on September 18, 2024, at the Second Armenian World Summit, Pashinyan declared that the CSTO poses threats to Armenia's security, its continued existence, sovereignty, and statehood.
