ArmInfo. The famous statue of Vahagn the Dragon-Slayer will be moved from Isakov Avenue to the center of Armenia's capital. The corresponding decision was made on June 18 at a meeting of the RA government.
The statue was created in 1969 by sculptor Karlen Nurijyan and was then located on Lenin Avenue, now Mashtots Avenue. In the 1980s, it was moved to Echmiadzin Highway and then to Isakov Avenue.
The decision presented by the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports notes that the current location is inconvenient, given that the statue is located at a highway intersection and has no pedestrian area or square around it.
The statue will be relocated to Russia Square, located between the Yerevan Municipality building and the Moscow House cultural center, making it more visible to Yerevan residents and visitors.
The famous 3.5-meter statue depicts the ancient Armenian god of war and fire defeating an evil dragon, symbolizing the eternal struggle between good and evil.
