ArmInfo.Europe and the United States benefit from maintaining a weak and illegitimate leader in Armenia, as they want the country to become a new anti-Russian stronghold.
Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, stated this at a meeting with editors of several media outlets. According to the politician, the country could face economic collapse if the opposition fails to unite, restore damaged relations with Russia, and halt all the processes whose consequences will be felt only by the Armenian people.
Karapetyan believes that current developments in relations with Russia (bans on the import of Armenian products - ed.) are the result of Western plans being implemented in Armenia. "We must understand that they are conducting their own monitoring, and they simply needed to find at least one country that would advance an anti-Russian agenda. They saw that they could accomplish this through the current Armenian government.
Because they failed to do so in Azerbaijan, they failed to do so in Georgia, and, essentially, only one country remains in the South Caucasus – Armenia," the politician believes. However, as Karapetyan pointed out, Armenia is a small country, so it is important to do everything possible to prevent it from becoming a platform for this struggle. To achieve this, he said, the country must have good relations with all political centers, rather than favoring a particular side. "We must have good relations with the United States, as we have a large diaspora there. We must also have good relations with Russia, France, and China if we want to be a country on the path to development. We must have trusting relationships with all these countries that will prevent them from turning us into a focal point for their confrontation. We must not allow anyone to use us against anyone, for example, Russia or France. This could have very dangerous consequences for our country. Therefore, I said after the elections that everyone won except the Armenian people. We will see the consequences of this every day," the leader of the "Strong Armenia" bloc asserted. Karapetyan believes that Europe and the United States simply have their own interests. And to implement their plans, he said, they need the country to have a weak and illegitimate leader.
"We simply need to show them that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's actions could lead to the loss of our country. I don't think they want our country to disappear, but at the same time, they want Armenia to become a new anti-Russian hub. That's to their advantage today. At the same time, we must remember that every war ends eventually, and perhaps at some point their relations with Russia will be restored. And then, believe me, Russia will no longer seek to improve its relations with Armenia.
Because, with each passing day, we are losing their trust. Europe is simply playing with him (Pashinyan - ed.), exploiting his anti-Russian stance, but when the opportunity arises, they will abandon him too. Therefore, it is important that we work with international structures and convey to them that we are not seeking to gain office, but rather to do everything possible to avoid the threats that our country faces today," Karapetyan concluded.
