ArmInfo. The Court of Appeal of Armenia lifted the preventive measure of house arrest imposed on the head of the Shirak diocese, Archbishop Mikael Adjapahyan, while maintaining a ban on travel.
The decision was made at a session on June 25. At the same time, the Court of Appeal annulled the trial court’s decision in the archbishop’s case and sent it for a new investigation. Recall that the archbishop was sentenced in October 2025 by a Yerevan court to two years’ imprisonment. He was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code of Armenia of publicly calling for the seizure of power, the violation of territorial integrity, or the violent overthrow of the constitutional order.
Meanwhile, Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office petitioned to revise the preventive measure against the archbishop from two years to two years and six months. On February 6, 2026, the Court of Appeal of Armenia changed the preventive measure for the head of the Shirak diocese to house arrest.
