ArmInfo. Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Tatevik Sargsyan received a delegation from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).
The primary objective of the mission is to conduct a formal evaluation of Armenia's veterinary services using the Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) methodology. This assessment will focus on analyzing the potential and effectiveness of the country's veterinary laboratory system, ensuring its resilience and compliance with international standards, and identifying opportunities to further enhance laboratory capabilities.
The expert group will examine the veterinary laboratory services management system, laboratory infrastructure, diagnostic capacity, quality management systems, human resources, financial and technical support, as well as the role of the laboratory network in animal disease control and food safety. Deputy Minister Sargsyan emphasized that the PVS mechanism serves as a vital strategic tool for Armenia, enabling the government to identify system strengths and weaknesses, establish development priorities, and structure necessary reforms. According to Sargsyan, this evaluation is instrumental in refining veterinary legislation and management frameworks, improving epidemiological surveillance mechanisms for animal diseases, strengthening emergency preparedness and response capabilities and enhancing the professional competencies of veterinary specialists.
