ArmInfo. Artur Mikaelyan, a representative of the opposition party "Strong Armenia," drew a curious parallel between the lawsuits currently being heard in the RA Constitutional Court by seven political forces challenging the results of the parliamentary elections and the significant salary increase for Constitutional Court judges.
On his Facebook page, the politician noted that a law significantly increasing the salaries of Constitutional Court judges recently came into force. 46,775,000 drams will be allocated to nine Constitutional Court judges this year. Meanwhile, pensions for retirees have increased by only 10,000 drams.
"The government guarantees salaries of tens of millions of drams to nine judges, while at the same time, in the Syunik region, under the so-called new system for assessing insecurity, approximately 869 families have lost their family benefits, that is, their minimum means of subsistence," stated Artur Mikaelyan, questioning why the government has specifically addressed the salaries of Constitutional Court judges during the pre-election period. He believes this is another calculation to preserve their own positions. "Is this done to ensure judicial independence or to maintain power for the ruling Civil Contract party? Why was this law adopted just days before the start of the election campaign?" Artur Mikaelyan asked, adding that the public should know the answers.
