Hakan Fidan: Ankara supports peace efforts  between Armenia and  Azerbaijan

ArmInfo.Ankara supports  efforts to achieve lasting peace  between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and already has an idea of the future architecture of  security and economic cooperation in the South Caucasus, as reported  by the Anadolu Agency, citing a statement by Turkish Foreign Minister  Hakan Fidan. 

"Following the agreement in the Caucasus, God willing, a ceasefire is  now in effect, and it's being well- observed. Armenia and Azerbaijan  are moving toward a permanent peace agreement, and we support this.   By supporting this, we mean a certain security and economic  architecture," Fidan said.

He noted that Turkey wields significant influence in many strategic  regions and believes it's necessary to develop similar initiatives in  Europe as well. "Geographically, Turkey has a strategic orientation  toward Europe and the broader European space through the Caucasus,  the Middle East, the Black and Mediterranean Seas, and the Balkans."  "It's necessary to develop a separate perspective for each strategic  region, and then align these perspectives, even if there are areas of  tension between them," he stated.

Fidan noted that Turkey enjoys a unique geographic position within  NATO, as it is simultaneously linked to the Middle East and the  Caucasus, a factor already being taken into account in strategic  analysis. He also emphasized the scale of Turkey's strategic space,  noting that each region has its own unique positions and conditions.

According to the Foreign Minister, security and economic  architectures must be shaped in accordance with these  characteristics. "Since we do not operate from a hegemonic  understanding, we must create this together with the countries of the  region," Fidan said. When asked about the possibility of creating  similar mechanisms in the Caucasus and Central Asia, he stated that  such structures could be formed as needed.
