ArmInfo.What's happening today around the Armenian Apostolic Church is a disgrace, as stated by International lawyer Robert Amsterdam on his Facebook page.
According to him, the authorities are desperately trying to establish control over the 1,700-year-old church and turn it into a branch of government structures. "What's happening is a flagrant violation of religious rights and freedoms. Washington and Brussels must respond," the lawyer noted, adding that Western leaders must remember their constitutional duty to promptly respond to gross violations of not only human rights but also religious freedoms. "What's happening in Armenia today cannot be ignored by Washington, Brussels, or any other party in the world that respects religious freedom," Robert Amsterdam noted.
He added that it appears that Western leaders are following the Ukrainian scenario, but regardless of whose style is being copied in Armenia, such behavior clearly violates European law.
