ArmInfo. Discussions on the candidacy for the chairman of the parliamentary committee on European integration continued at the August 26 session of the National Assembly of Armenia. The opposition "Strong Armenia" faction nominated Harutyun Harutyunyan for the position.
According to the candidate, when implementing the foreign policy agenda, one should not be guided by the feedback from particular political centers, but rather consider what the country will gain from it. The goal of the Armenian state should be to have as many partners, markets, investments, technologies, and economic and financial opportunities as possible. To achieve these goals, it is necessary to maintain good relations with all global power centers and international organizations, including the European Union. However, first and foremost, it's important to consider the long-term interests of Armenia and the Armenian people. In this context, having a large number of partners should mean more opportunities for the Republic of Armenia, not new dependencies. "We are interested in developing and deepening relations with the EU, which should not be seen as an instrument directed against third countries. We should not develop relations with the EU that are directed against any particular state; these relations should develop solely in the interests of Armenia's development," the MP emphasized.
Immediately after his speech, secret elections for the head of the European Integration Committee began, prompting a recess in the National Assembly.
