ArmInfo. The leader of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, businessman Samvel Karapetyan, congratulated the first president of Artsakh and the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, on his birthday. The latter is celebrating his 72nd birthday in prison.
"Today, this congratulation has a special political significance. The political repression against Robert Kocharyan has long since gone beyond the scope of a legal dispute. The President, who during his years as a leader stood at the forefront of protecting the security and statehood of Armenia and Artsakh, is today deprived of his liberty and subjected to political persecution.
We may have different political views, different assessments, and even disagreements. At the same time, in a legal and democratic state, political competition should not escalate into political retribution," Karapetyan said in his message.
According to him, Armenia's future cannot be built through the persecution and imprisonment of political opponents or dissidents. "Domestic policies of hatred, revenge, and division cannot create real added value, and the challenges facing Armenia require precisely the opposite. I wish Robert Kocharyan and his family health, strength, and resilience to overcome this difficulty," Karapetyan wrote in his message.
