ArmInfo. Yerevan City Hall is considering the possibility of introducing parking zones in the city using the valet-parking concept. In particular, during a working meeting on September 14, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan instructed the municipality’s transport department, together with the trade department, to study the experience of valet-parking within two months and present relevant solutions for implementing this system in the city center.
"Regarding the organization of illegal parking, I have already formed the opinion that there are individuals in the government system who facilitate this process. But I believe that we need to work systematically to eliminate this phenomenon from the city—particularly from its center," he noted. The mayor instructed those responsible to bring the valet-parking system into the legal framework in order to rule out the possibility of illegal earnings by mid-level officials.
At the same time, Avinyan instructed officials to fight illegal parking on Yerevan’s streets more strictly. "While we have found various solutions to other problems facing the city, the issue of parking has only worsened over the years due to the economic situation, the increase in the number of passenger cars, and other factors," the mayor said.
