Samvel Karapetyan: Opposition leaders will get out of prison, while the one who should be there will end up there

ArmInfo. Opposition leaders will leave prison, while the person who should be there will end up there. Strong Armenia bloc leader Samvel Karapetyan stated this on September 17 in a conversation with journalists before a court hearing.

He did not deny that opposition leaders are being detained at Azerbaijan’s request, but urged people to look for the main reasons behind these arrests in the “mind” of Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Reacting to Pashinyan’s statement that these are all legal proceedings, he called for asking why the prime minister himself is not going through them, considering how many trials he has brought upon Armenia.

The politician also reacted to Pashinyan’s threats to seize the property of opposition leaders. In particular, Karapetyan noted that they should be treated as yet another of the prime minister’s seasonal exacerbations. “If a person talks a lot about something, it means that he himself has a great deal of it. And rest assured that if a person says he does not have something, then he definitely has it. As for the opposition leaders, they will leave prison, while the person who should be there will end up there,” the party leader noted.

Reacting to Pashinyan’s assertion that “ideas contradicting the ideology of ‘Real Armenia’ should not be voiced in Armenia’s schools,” the leader of Strong Armenia stated that this ideology is actually about depriving people of their Homeland. “We will do everything so that they cannot promote this ideology. This also concerns Tigranashen. These are issues that affect not only the residents of this village, but the entire nation,” the politician stated.

Karapetyan also explained why, in his opinion, not a single one of his press conferences is overlooked by Azerbaijani media. “They understand that only we can stop the implementation of the agenda they are promoting in Armenia. Even Pashinyan himself stated today that he is concerned about the statements coming from Azerbaijan. He is also already moving to our side; he too will choose us,” Karapetyan concluded.

It should be recalled that the businessman was arrested in June 2025 following statements in defense of the Armenian Church. In December last year, the measure of restraint imposed on Samvel Karapetyan was changed to house arrest and has since been extended several times.
