ArmInfo. A delegation led by Luca Zaia, President of the Regional Council of Veneto, visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial and the Armenian Genocide Museum.
According to the press service of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, the guests were welcomed by Shushan Khachatryan, Head of the Department of Documentation and Research of Victims and Survivors of the Armenian Genocide. She spoke about the history and significance of the memorial.
The delegation members laid flowers at the eternal flame and paid their respects to the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide.
Shushan Khachatryan accompanied them to the Wall of Remembrance and spoke about the foreign figures who supported Armenians during the Armenian Genocide. In particular, the pro-Armenian activities of Pope Benedict XV and the Italian Consul General in Trabzon, Giacomo Gorini, as well as their efforts to rescue Armenians, were presented.
The guests then visited the Armenian Genocide Museum, viewing its permanent and temporary exhibitions.
At the end of the tour, Luca Zaia signed the guest book. Furthermore, the Italian side donated lithographs of the Doge's Palace and the Church of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice, created by Italian artist Vico Calabro, to the museum-institute.
It should be noted that Italy has not officially recognized the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. However, a number of Italian regions have done so at the regional council level.
