


ArmInfo. Criminal police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained two citizens who were found to be in possession of more than 3 kg of marijuana, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reported.
The report notes that officers of the Gegharkunik Regional Criminal Police Department and the National Security Service received operational information that two Vardenis residents were traveling to the Syunk region to purchase a particularly large amount of contraband marijuana. The information was passed on to patrols in the Gegharkunik region. On October 2, at 1:00 a.m., a Jeep Compass was stopped on the Martuni-Getap highway, but the Vardenis residents attempted to escape in their car. Their escape ended in the village of Geghovit. They were detained on suspicion of illegally purchasing, storing, transporting, and selling drugs and taken to the Martuni Public Police Department, and their vehicle was sealed in a specially secured area.
During a search of a 49-year-old passenger from Vardenis, a canister of marijuana was discovered. A criminal case has been opened, and the searches were conducted based on a court decision. Three packages containing 3 kilograms and 200 grams of marijuana were found in the 35-year-old man's Jeep Compass, and a canister of marijuana, 356 rounds of ammunition, and three machine gun magazines were found in his home. Approximately 130 grams of marijuana and three cannabis stalks were found in the 49-year-old man's home.
Both have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
