ArmInfo. Azerbaijan is increasing pressure on the Armenian authorities to adopt a new Constitution. Artur Khachatryan, an MP from the Armenia faction, expressed this opinion during a press conference on October 14, answering journalists' questions.
According to him, there are at least two signals confirming this thesis. In this regard, he pointed to statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a meeting of the New Azerbaijan Party, where he spoke of Armenia's responsibility, not only in the person of the former authorities but also the current leadership, and also touched on the issue of 4,500 people missing 35 years ago. "These statements are not accidental," the opposition figure emphasized. According to him, the Azerbaijani side is effectively making it clear that if the Armenian authorities don't want this issue to continue, they should fulfill the responsibility they've assumed in any way they wish.
He also called the visit of Azerbaijani Presidential Aide Hikmet Hajiyev to Armenia no coincidence. Khachatryan noted that this is the first international working visit since the elections. "This is the man who was behind the negotiation process and the post-war events; I wouldn't be surprised if he was one of the architects. And closed discussions were held. This means that Aliyev and Pashinyan had preliminary expectations about how events would develop after the elections, which the opposition and its struggle prevented," the MP said.
