ArmInfo. Citizens of Russia, Armenia, and other countries with which Kazakhstan has a visa-free regime will require an electronic permit to enter the republic starting July 1, 2027. The document will be free and valid for 180 days, Zakon.kz reports, citing a government decree.
The permit must be obtained electronically at least 72 hours before crossing the border. The new rules apply to citizens of all countries eligible for visa-free entry to Kazakhstan, with the exception of certain categories of foreigners.
The system will be implemented in stages. From November 2026 to July 1, 2027, the lack of a permit will no longer be grounds for entry denial: during this period, foreigners will be provided with information on the need for the document. Starting July 1, 2027, it will become mandatory for those covered by the new requirements.
However, the visa-free stay period will remain unchanged. Specifically, citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union states—Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia—will be able to stay in the republic for up to 90 days within each 180-day period. For citizens of other countries, the length of stay is determined by Kazakhstan's national legislation and international treaties.
Certain categories of foreigners, including diplomats, international truck drivers, and citizens under 16 and over 65, will be exempt from obtaining an electronic permit. For citizens of countries requiring a visa to enter Kazakhstan, the procedure will remain unchanged: if they have a visa, they will not need to obtain an additional electronic permit.
The host—for example, a hotel or private individual—must still notify Kazakhstani authorities of the foreigner's location and any changes thereto.
