One policeman died and two were wounded in the armed clashes on July 17 morning, the Armenian National Security Service (NSS) says in a statement sent to ArmInfo.
The statement says that in exchange for the limited number of the policemen taken hostage, the armed group demands releasing Zhirayr Sefilyan, who was arrested a month ago on suspicion of illegal acquisition and keeping of weapons and ammunition. To prevent further criminal actions of the armed persons, the special police forces took relevant measures and set two hostages free.
The law-enforcement structures of Armenia totally control the situation and take all necessary measures to settle the situation. At the same time, the NSS urges the mass media to use only official sources' data when disseminating information. Otherwise, misinformation can contribute to the criminal actions, endangering the citizens' lives and health.
