Sasna Tsrer group announces the start of an armed revolt

 "We announce the start of an armed revolt. We are the comrade-in-arms and political teammates of Zhirayr Sefilyan," says the statement of Sasna Tsrer (Daredvils of Sasun) group, which seized the building of the Patrol-Guard Service Regiment in Erebuni district of Yerevan on July 17.

In their statement, they say in particular that for several years Zhirayr Sefilyan and his supporters have been trying to change the situation in Armenia by peaceful means. "As a result, Sefilyan faces charges under a framed-up case and he has been sent to jail, while his supporters undergo constant pressure and violence," the statement says, noting that the bitter experience demonstrates that the ruling regime has made people helpless and weak. In addition, the large-scale migration is destroying the last elements of resistance. 
"Moreover, Serzh Sargsyan's treason - to cede the liberated territories of Artsakh to retain grip on power - will become the last nail in the coffin of our statehood. That being said, the only alternative for saving our nation and Motherland is an armed revolt. We, the members of Sasna Tsrer group, realize the graveness of the situation and we have decided to ensure the right to worthy life for us and our successors, resorting to an armed revolt," the statement says. 

Sasna Tsrer members urge the Armenians worldwide and the citizens of Armenia to join the revolt and support them in every possible way. 

They demand that Serzh Sargsyan, "who has usurped the power and endangers the physical existence of the country, should resign and a government of national confidence should be formed".    

"The time for freedom, dignity, justice and law has come. We are the owners of our country," they emphasize in the statement.
