Court of Goris finds persons in Syunik Governor`s circle guilty

ArmInfo. The court of Goris  has found the relatives and persons in the Syunik Governor's circle  guilty and has sentenced them to various periods of imprisonment.

The trial on the case involving the relatives and persons in Syunik  Governor Surik Khachatryan's circle is over. The court of general  jurisdiction has found all the defendants guilty. The governor's  brother Aghalar Khachatryan and another participant in the incident,  Shahum Davtyan, have been sentenced to 6 months in jail. The  governor's nephew Eyner Khachatryan and another participant in the  incident Derenik Hakobyan have been sentenced to 1 year in jail. Mais  Khachatryan, another nephew of the governor, has been sentenced to  2.5 years in jail, and Yuri Manucharyan, one more participant in the  incident, has been sentenced to 4.5 years in jail. According to the  indictment, Yuri Manucharyan, Derenik Hakobyan, Shahum Davtyan, Eyner  Khachatryan and Mais Khachatryan brutally beat Mushegh Zaqaryan on 2  May 2015.

To note, the prosecutor demanded even a severer sentence for the  defendants. Nevertheless, lawyer Armen Melkonyan says that they are  going to dispute the verdict.

In November 2015, the Investigative Committee of Armenia issued a  press release saying that through preliminary investigation it was  grounded that Zaqaryan brothers had been inflicted bodily damages  during the row that took place at the area called "Sdghi Gyol" in  Goris.

It was found that on May 2, 2015 at about 3 pm in Ankakhutyun Str. of  Goris there was a road accident; two cars crashed as the result of  which the side mirror of the car driven by M. Zaqaryan was damaged.  In order to make clarifications on this issue, having reached a prior  agreement, on the same day at about 5 pm the participants of the  incident met at the area called "Sdghi Gyol" in Goris. During the row  that erupted between them violence was used against Mushegh and  Harutyun Zaqaryan brothers by a group of persons. During the row M.  Zaqaryan was hit by a group of persons who had a joint intention to  batter him. As a result, M. Zaqaryan was inflicted medium gravity  damage. According to the obtained evidence Yu. Manucharyan hit  different parts of M. Zaqaryan's body, face with hands and feet, he  also hit the latter's head with a muffler of the car. Sh. Davtyan, D.  Hakobyan, S., E. and M. Khachatryans had their direct participation  in the violence used against him. They also hit him with hands and  feet and M. Khachatryan hit M. Zaqaryan's head with a bludgeon.  Particularly, Sh. Davtyan, D. Hakobyan and M. Khachatryan hit his  face and different parts of his body with hands and feet, M.  Khachatryan also hit M. Zaqaryan's head with a bludgeon. Seyran and  Eyner Khachatryans hit different parts of Mushegh Zaqaryan's body  with hands and feet. Besides, according to investigation data, during  the mentioned brawl Y. Manucharyan hit H. Zaqaryan's face twice with  a foot. The first blow was struck to Harutyun Zaqaryan's frontal  right part, the second one was struck to the right eye which caused  loss of vision. As a result, medium gravity damage was inflicted to  Mushegh Zaqaryan's health, and heavy damage was inflicted to Harutyun   Zaqaryan's health.

On the base of the evidence obtained during pretrial proceeding Yuri  Manucharyan was charged according to the Part 1 of the Article 112  and the Point 3 of the Part 2 of the Article 113 of RA Criminal Code.  Derenik Hakobyan, Shahum Davtyan, Mayis, Eyner and Seyran  Khachatryans were charged according to the Point 3 of the Part 2 of  the Article 113 of RA Criminal Code. The criminal case with the bill  of indictment was sent to the prosecutor supervising the legality of  preliminary investigation. The bill of indictment was confirmed and  the criminal case was sent to court, the Investigative Committee's  press release said.

The Zakaryan brothers said that the Syunik governor's son Tigran was  also involved in the incident, though Governor Khachatryan denied his  son's participation in the incident in every possible way.  Nevertheless, his son Tigran was also detained, but the criminal case  against him was dismissed shortly after. Earlier, Harutyun Zaqaryan  said that it was Tigran Khachatryan that hit him in the eye. Later,  however, he changed his testimonies. Meanwhile, the Zaqaryan  brothers' father Gagik Zaqaryan told ArmInfo that they did not change  their testimonies. "Even if Tigran Khachatryan did not hit my son in  the eye, he participated in the incident and must also be held  accountable," he said.
