Gosduma ratifies the Agreement on setting Armenian-Russian joint  system of air defense 

ArmInfo.The State Duma of Russian Federation ratified the  Agreement on setting  joint System of Air Defense between Armenia and Russia within  the framework of regional  air defense system in the  Caucasus Corporate Security region.  "The document was submitted for   the Parliament approval by the President of Russian Federation, and  the corresponding Agreement was signed in Moscow on December 23,  2015.

The Agreement assumes the "creation of joint air defense system  as an integral part of the CIS member countries joint air defense  system." The main tasks of the Air Defense Joint System is the  instant duty on air defense and maintenance of Air Defense system,"  the TASS published clarification note states.

The joint activities of air defense forces will be under the command  of Russian Air Cosmic Forces Supreme Commander. And the regular  command will be implemented by the Commander of the Southern Military  District of Russian Military Forces. It is assumed that Armenian and  Russian Defense Ministries will organize and plan the implementation  of Air Defense System, as well as the joint duty on air defense. 

The ratification of this Agreement conforms to the states interests  of Russia, Leonid Kalashnikov,   the head of the State Duma Committee  on CIS and Eurasian Integration stated. .  Toremind,  the President  of Russia Vladimir Putin on October 7  submitted l the Agreement  between Russia and Armenia on Joint Air Defense System  for the  parliament approval.

To recall, on October 23, 2015, the Russian Government approved the   agreement on creation of a joint air defense system with Armenia in   the Caucasus region of collective security. The document was   submitted for the Russian President's ratification. The Russian   President announced the creation of the air defense system in   November 2013. On November 11, Russia's President Vladimir Putin   ordered to sign the agreement between Russia and Armenia on creating   a joint air defense system in the Caucasus region of collective   security.  n December 23, 2015, Armenia's Defense Minister Seyran  Ohanyan and  his Russian counterpart Sergey Shoygu signed the  relevant agreement.  Some Armenian military experts think the joint  air defense system is  already operating, given the presence of the  102nd Russian military  base in Gyumri, Russian S-300 systems and  MiG-29 planes, as well as  the joint command system in the North  Caucasus.
