Stepan Safaryan: The upcoming parliamentary elections should be held  on new terms

The upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia should be held on new terms as the role of the legislative body will be too big from now on, on February  22 in a press conference in Yerevan, said the head of the Armenian  Institute of International and Security Affairs (AIISA) and Deputy  candidate from "Free Democrats" Stepan Safaryan.  

He considers that the Party he represents, managed to form a team, which can bring  changes to the state. At the same time, Safaryan assured that the  logic of electoral process has changed and the times when they could  consolidate against the government without considering the nuances  are gone. "The practice shows that such alliances are subjected to  ideological schism", noted the political scientist. 

According to him, none of the forces participating in electoral  campaign is sure that will pass the 5% barrier, including the ruling  Republican Party of Armenia. "Government understands that and that is  why active activities have start, directed to attract the voters", he  stressed, adding that he does not consider the governmental resources  to be dangerous.  To recall, the parliamentary elections in Armenia  are scheduled on 2  April. According to the CEC, the official  election campaign starts on  March 5, and complete on 31st. The  election will take place on April  2 from 8:00 to 20:00. Preliminary  results will be announced till  20:00 April 3rd. It will be the first  elections after the adoption of  the constitutional reform of 2015,  providing transition to a  parliamentary form of government. 9  political entities are registered  to participate in the election:  four parties, three blocks and two  joint proportional lists. To  carry out observation mission four  international organizations are  invited - the Council of Europe,  PACE, OSCE and CIS  Interparliamentary Assembly.
