Turkey must accept its own history: The world expresses its attitude  to the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire

ArmInfo.The deputy chairman of the German Bundestag, Edelhard Bulman, calls on the Turkish government to accept its own history. "Recognition of the truth helps  to remain sober and to avoid hatred, only those who accept it can  come into contact with the consequences of the incident and learn  from this," Bullman stated in the German History Museum in Berlin  during an event dedicated to the memory of the victims of the  Armenian Genocide.

According to the deputy chairman of the German Bundestag, she will  never forget the feelings and impressions that she experienced when  visiting the Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex of the Armenian  Genocide victims in Yerevan. She recalled that over 200  representatives of the intelligentsia, journalists, deputies,  doctors, teachers were arrested in Istanbul overnight on April 24  overnight. "All of them united one thing that they were Armenians, it  was the organized destruction of the Armenian, today we also remember  those who passed through this hell and remained alive," she said.  Bulman noted the importance of the adoption by the German Bundestag  of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide, stating the historical  responsibility of the Germans. "German soldiers often became  organizers of the links, our diplomats knew about the pogroms, but  did not interfere in this process, which is why we bear the burden of  our responsibility, and that is why the Bundestag adopted this  resolution." "If we ignore the atrocities of the past, we are destined to repeat  them," said Democratic leader in the US House of Representatives  Nancy Pelosi. She recalls in her message that 102 years have passed  since the first steps to implement the Armenian Genocide. "Ottoman  leaders killed 1.5 million Armenian men, women and children in the  following years, and the truth of these terrible events was often  denied, but the historical fact is obvious," she said. According to  her, ignoring the atrocities of the past, it is destined to repeat  them. "On this gloomy day, commemorating both the victims of the  Armenian Genocide and the six million Jews killed as a result of the  Holocaust, we reaffirm our commitment to continue talking about the  dead. We must defend the truth and renew our commitment: never  again," Palosi said.

Meanwhile, Congressman Adam Schiff expressed his disappointment with  the statement of US President Donald Trump in connection with the  102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.  "Today we received  another disappointing statement from another president who refused to  recognize as genocide the murder of 1.5 million Armenians in  1915-1923," Schiff said. "President Trump joined the long list of  presidents from both Republicans and Democrats who do not want to  confront with Turkey, and made the US part of the campaign of  denial," he said, more than 100 years ago, the Ottoman Empire  implemented a brutal campaign to kill, rape, deport Armenians, killed  1.5 million women and children during the first Genocide of the 20th  century", noting that even today hundreds of thousands of  representatives of religious minorities face the threat of their  existence because of the "Islamic state" in Syria and Iraq, he said  that it is all the more urgent that the Congress recognizes the  historical fact of the Armenian Genocide and opposes modern genocide  and crimes against humanity.

According to the Vice-President of Argentina, Gabriella Michetti,  today the memory of the Armenian Genocide helps to prevent the  recurrence of such pogroms. "When we talk about genocide, we are  talking about a crime against humanity," she said, recalling that in  2007 the Argentine National Congress passed law 26.199, which  recognized the events of 1915 as genocide.
