Head of Water Management Committee: do not worry about the quality of  drinking water supplied to the population

There is no problem with drinking water quality in Yerevan.  Answering the question of ArmInfo, the chairman of the State Water Management Committee of  Armenia Arsen Harutyunyan stated at the seminar on April 8. According  to him, every month the department receives information from the  Ministry of Health of Armenia regarding the quality of drinking  water.

According to him, among the competitive requirements that were set  for the future unified water supply and water supply operator, a  number of conditions were set, the implementation of which the  company had to provide for several years. Requirements, including  those related to the continuity of water supply, water quality, as  well as customer satisfaction with the process.

At present, the residents of Yerevan should not worry about the  quality of drinking water supplied to the population. There are sites  where there are some deviations from the requirements for the quality  of drinking water, which are solved for several days by "Veolia Jur",  he explained.

The head of the State Committee reminded that in 2017 the program of  construction of a new wastewater treatment plant worth 11 million  euros was completed. Currently, with a single water supply and  wastewater operator, negotiations are under way with the company  Veolia Jur, in order to transfer to her a new station in service. The  cleaning station that operates today, as indicated by Harutyunyan,  carries out mechanical cleaning of water, by passing the dirty water  through the grid. The new one will allow to reduce the level of  pollution of water entering the rivers. The next stage is in  2019-2020. in the Yerevan district of "Aeration" metatankers will be  built, which will not only provide additional volumes of electricity  by burning silt, but will also send cleaner water to irrigation  systems. At the same time, about $ 6mln this year will be directed to  the full restoration of water supply in the Yerevan neighborhoods of  Silikyan and Haghtanak.

In addition, two new water purification stations will be built in  Armenia in 2018 - one in Zartonk community of Armavir region, the  second in Sevan city of Gegharkunik region. The design works have  already been completed, the company - the developer will be selected  based on the results of the competition. For today, as Arsen  Harutyunyan pointed out, there are problems with the quality of  drinking water in the Armavir region, where groundwater is used. To  solve the problem with "Veolia Jur" it is planned to implement a  program within the framework of which it is planned to supply water  from the community of Nazrvan.

As for the cases when sewage water was mixed with irrigation water,  as Harutyunyan noted, there are numerous facts indicating that land  users themselves damage the pipes in order to provide themselves with  additional water intake for irrigation.
