ArmInfo. On the eve of the National Holiday of France - Bastille Day, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian visited the French embassy in our country.
As the press service of the Armenian president told ArmInfo, Sarkissian congratulated the French Ambassador Jonathan Lacote, embassy staff and the friendly French people on their holiday. Every year on July 14, the whole of France celebrates a national holiday - the Day of the Bastille (La Fete Nationale / Bastille Day) or the Day of July 14 (Le Quatorze Juillet), established in 1880. The historical event that became the basis for the establishment of the holiday occurred during the Great French Revolution - in 1789 the insurgent Parisians stormed the fortress-prison of Bastille - a symbol of royal despotism and released seven prisoners. This event is considered the beginning of the Great French Revolution, as well as a symbol of the overthrow of absolutism.
