
ArmInfo. Islamic Republic of Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh expressed worries about the new military engagement in border regions of Armenia Republic and the Republic of Azerbaijan, calling on both countries to observe self-restraint, IRNA reports.
Expressing deed worry about the military clashes on those neighboring countries, Khatibzadeh emphasized the need for each country to respect the internationally recognized borders.
He invited the two countries to resolve their disputes through negotiations and other peaceful ways. Khatibzadeh said that the prevailing tensions are harmful for the peace process and regional development, announcing the Islamic Republic of Iran's readiness, like before, to assist both sides aimed at peaceful resolving of disputes and contributing to regional peace and stability.
On November 16 at about 1:00 pm units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan attacked the Armenian positions located in the eastern direction of the border. The enemy used artillery, armored vehicles, firearms of various calibers. As a result of the retaliatory actions of the Armenian side, according to the RA Ministry of Defense, the enemy has large losses in manpower and equipment. The Armenian side also has losses. The RA Defense Ministry reported late in the evening that according to the agreement reached with the mediation of the Russian side, the fire in the eastern direction of the Armenian border has been stopped since 18:30, the situation has relatively stabilized. The RA Defense Ministry announced the name of one dead Armenian serviceman and informed about the capture of 13 Armenian soldiers by the enemy. It is noted that communication with another 24 military personnel has been lost. The loss of two combat positions from the Armenian side is also reported.
