Eduard Aghajanyan on failed meeting of FMs of Armenia and Azerbaijan  and process of border delimitation

Eduard Aghajanyan on failed meeting of FMs of Armenia and Azerbaijan  and process of border delimitation

ArmInfo. At the moment, discussions between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the launch of  mechanisms for delimitation and demarcation of the border in the  process, I have nothing new to say.

On December 6, in an interview  with journalists in the parliament, to clarify whether the border  delimitation mechanism will actually be launched by the end of this  year, as stated by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia  following the Sochi talks chairman of the NA Standing Committee on  Foreign Relations MP from the ruling Civil Contract party Eduard  Aghajanyan said Eduard Aghajanyan answered.

At the same time, Aghajanyan refused to give any assessment to the  statements of Azerbaijan regarding the reason for the cancellation of  the meeting between the heads of the RA and AR foreign ministries  (Baku argued this with the visit of Armenian MPs to Artsakh, ed.  note). In his words, the Armenian side has no comments on this issue.

"The meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan  did not take place because of the Armenian side. Our position on this  issue remains the same: the only format in which the Karabakh  conflict should be resolved is the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship,"  he said, having found it difficult to say, why the meeting did not  take place? Aghajanyan expressed his conviction that the RA MFA will  give a clearer answer to this question.

At the same time, he called it important that Armenia will not back  down from its position, in particular, by remaining committed to  resolving the issue within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-  chairmanship. "I believe that this circumstance should be  strengthened in the domestic political discourse, because this  position is shared by almost all the most important players of the  international community and the three co-chairing states of the Minsk  Group," the MP assured, adding that Armenia is the guarantor of  Artsakh's security, as evidenced by the economic projects implemented  in the NKR. He assured that there can be no second opinion on this  issue, and the visits of officials from Armenia to Artsakh are a  secondary matter.

Referring to the activities of the trilateral working group at the  level of deputy prime ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the  Russian Federation, Aghajanyan stated that these meetings are of a  periodic nature.  "Naturally, the co-chair countries are trying to  find mutually acceptable options, and this process cannot be smooth  and easy. The main thing is that this work continues - this is the  best proof of the parties' interest in resolving all existing  issues," the MP said, adding that it is not difficult guess what  issues are being discussed, and each side is trying to advance their  interests, in the end the parties must come to a common denominator.

The MP also touched upon another death of a civilian from an  Azerbaijani bullet in Artsakh, and agreed that this was a problematic  issue. At the same time, he assured that the activities of the  Armenian authorities in all possible formats are aimed at stopping  such incidents as soon as possible, and a real de- escalation of the  situation in the region was ensured. "This is the priority goal of  the Government of Armenia. For this, all tools at hand are used. In  all formats and at all meetings, the primary and most important  subject of discussion is the security and inviolability of the  borders of Armenia, as well as the security of the citizens of the  republic," Aghajanyan assured. When asked why the Armenian side does  not declare that official visits to Artsakh will continue, since in  the end this is an Armenian territory and Azerbaijan cannot put such  demands on the RA, the pro-government MP replied that at first glance  it seems that Armenia should do statements that are desired by some  of the public in the country. "However, we must be aware that any  speech and statement by the ruling force is fraught with concrete  consequences, therefore, every RA official and legislator must be  well aware of the weight and consequences of each uttered letter," he  summed up.
