
ArmInfo.At the moment, the extradition of Azerbaijanis who crossed the Armenian border is not allowed, RA Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan said in an interview with journalists on May 3.
According to her, the criminal proceedings against one of the two Azerbaijani servicemen who illegally crossed the border of Armenia have been completed and the case has been sent to court. The investigation against another citizen of Azerbaijan continues - he is accused of murder committed under aggravating circumstances, he is also charged with smuggling weapons, illegally crossing the border and carrying weapons in Armenia.
<At the stage of pre-trial proceedings, extradition is not expected and is not allowed. It is carried out only in the conditions of judicial acts that have entered into legal force in relation to convicts. Extradition is regulated by a number of conventions, in the case of Azerbaijan, these are the Moscow Convention of 1998 and the Strasbourg Convention>, Vardapetyan said.
When asked whether it is possible to extradite them in exchange for the return of Armenian POWs from Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor General answered that this issue is not within her powers.
According to the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Armenia, on April 10, in the interval from 01:00 to 02:00, a serviceman of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces was found and detained in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. On April 13, a second Azerbaijani serviceman was found and detained on the territory of Armenia.
