Western Establishment hardly concerned over consequences of drawing  Armenia into West-Russia confrontation - Sergei Kopyrkin

ArmInfo.The XVth Country Conference of Russian compatriots of the Republic of Armenia is  taking place in extraordinary conditions, against the backdrop of one of the darkest pages in the history of modern Armenia, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin stated at the opening of the conference in Yerevan, on October 21. 

"We witnessed how more than 100 thousand residents of  Nagorno-Karabakh - Armenians and Russians - were forced to leave  their homeland, leaving behind their homes, their usual way of life.  It is probably very difficult to fully imagine and feel the pain and  confusion of the people who were victims these tragic events," the  Russian diplomat noted. In this vein, he noted that the Russian side  at different levels, from the first days, provided assistance to  these people. He added that in addition to the previously delivered  humanitarian aid, the Russian government decided to provide  assistance through the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations based  on the needs identified by the Armenian side.

According to him, this is no coincidence, since this is a tragedy not  only for the population of Nagorno- Karabakh, but also for the entire  Armenian people; Russia perceives it as its own tragedy.

"All this work, the attitude towards the tragedy, in my opinion, is  convincing evidence that despite all, to put it mildly, ambiguous  statements, statements, propaganda that is being conducted in modern  Armenia in relation to Russia, its goals, role, frankly speaking -  often a slanderous campaign - RA remains for the Russian Federation  and the Russian people not just a friendly, but also a fraternal  state. I repeat, the events that the Armenian people are experiencing  are not alien to Russia and the Russians," Kopyrkin said.

The Russian Ambassador expressed his conviction that no fluctuations  in the political situation can erase the unique historical ties of  friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of the two  countries.

At the same time, he emphasized that Russia, for its part, firmly  intends to continue to work, despite any problems or opposition, to  bring peace and prosperity to the region.

As another significant example of the importance the Russian  Federation attaches to its relations with Armenia and its presence in  the South Caucasus, Kopyrkin cited the intention to open a Russian  Consulate General in the city of Kapan, Syunik region of the Republic  of Armenia.

"Our advance group of three diplomats is currently working there,  preparing for this opening," he added.

Referring to the current situation in general, Kopyrkin noted that  the processes in the South Caucasus are directly related to ongoing  global processes. "To a large extent, the tragedies, the upheavals  that we are experiencing are the result of the efforts of the  collective West, led by the United States, to slow down the objective  process of forming a multipolar world order and maintain its hegemony  in world affairs," Kopyrkin said. In this regard, he drew attention  to the fact that today the collective West is waging a hybrid war  against Russia, including by military means, in order to remove it  from the position of the leading world powers, undermine the economy,  and undermine internal political stability.

"Our advance group of three diplomats is currently working there,  preparing for this opening," he added.

"To achieve these goals, our enemies are ready to resort to any  means, including attempts to drag our brotherly countries and  peoples, including Armenia, into this confrontation. At the same  time, what will be the consequences for the Armenian people and  Armenia as a state, the consequences of this dirty game, The Western  establishment cares little," the diplomat said.

The XV country conference in Yerevan started with a minute of silence  for the victims of the latest escalation around Artsakh. The anthems  of Russia and Armenia were also played. The event was organized by  the Coordination Council of public organizations of Russian  compatriots of Armenia with the support of the Russian Embassy in the  Republic of Armenia and the Russian House in Yerevan. The conference  was held under the slogan "Russian World of Armenia. Achievements and  modern challenges."
