Artsakh Armenians` rights to return to their homeland under  international protection not negotiating position, but mandate -  statement 

ArmInfo.The right of Artsakh Armenians to return to their homeland under international protection  is not a negotiating position, but a mandate based on the fundamental principles of human rights and international law, reads a statement of the Committee for the Protection of Fundamental Rights of the People of Artsakh, regarding the decision of the European Parliament of March 12, 2024.

A statement from the Committee received by ArmInfo notes that the  Committee for the Protection of Fundamental Rights of the People of  Artsakh welcomes the initiative presented in paragraph 14 of the  European Parliament resolution of March 22, 2024, which unequivocally  confirms the right of Artsakh Armenians to return to their homeland  under international presence.

"The decisive call of the parliament underscores the fact that the  security of the Armenians of Artsakh cannot be guaranteed without  international presence and protection. In accordance with the wording  voiced in the resolution and the decisions of the International Court  of Justice, the committee is ready to join a process with an  international mandate that ensures the safe and dignified return of  Artsakh Armenians to their homeland under international protection,  with respect for their right to self-determination," the statement  says.

The Committee is confident that, despite Azerbaijan's destructive  reaction to this resolution, the participation of parliament in  resolving this issue is not only justified and welcomed, but  important and significant.

"The position of the European Parliament on this issue emphasizes the  indispensable role of international oversight in ensuring the safe  and dignified return of Artsakh Armenians to their native land, as  well as in preserving the Armenian religious and cultural heritage,  which is currently being destroyed, desecrated and destroyed on a  daily basis.

"It is extremely important to immediately create an international  mechanism and format for protecting the fundamental rights of the  people of Artsakh. We call on member states and international  organizations to actively work to address the ongoing deprivation of  fundamental rights of Artsakh people and prevent the final  destruction of the indigenous population of Artsakh, and we also call  on EU structures, including the EU executive branch, to take  immediate steps to implement these important calls contained in the  resolution," the statement reads. 

The Committee for the Protection of Fundamental Rights of the People  of Artsakh was created and authorized by a decision of the Artsakh  Parliament on December 2, 2023.
