RF Federation Council Speaker: Russian parliamentary delegation`s  visit to Armenia is  timely and relevant

ArmInfo. The visit of the Russian parliamentary delegation to Armenia is timely and relevant,  as stated by the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko on June 6 in Yerevan following a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"We have arrived as a very representative delegation, consisting of  senators, deputies, and heads of regions. This underscores our  interest in analyzing bilateral relations and  further promoting  them," the speaker of the Federation Council said.  Particularly, she  highlighted the results of the meeting with Nikol Pashinyan, which  lasted longer than planned. According to Valentina Matviyenko, the  meeting was very informative, constructive and friendly.

 "There is an understanding of the situation in the South Caucasus  region, there is an understanding of the need to update the bilateral  agenda considering the new realities "on the ground". We "went  through" the entire agenda of bilateral relations. First of all, this  is trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. We also  addressed  humanitarian, cultural and educational cooperation  matters," Valentina Matviyenko said.

She also noted that during the negotiations in a broad format, the  Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia once again emphasized that  all conditions have been created for Russian businesses in Armenia,  and a  favorable economic, business and investment climate has been  created.  The Speaker of the Federation Council emphasized that the  events within the framework of the visit are being held clearly,  organized and correctly oriented in conceptual terms.

Valentina Matviyenko also emphasized that the Russian delegation's  visit  coincided with the International Day of the Russian Language  celebrated on June 6, as established by the UN on the birthday of  Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin. "Pushkin is honored in Armenia, with  several monuments dedicated to our great poet. In parliament, we  discussed the need to enhance cooperation in education, we have a  special working group on Russian textbooks. The authorities are  supportive of these initiatives," Matviyenko said.  "In general, the  Russian language is held in high regard in Armenia. The Prime  Minister supports the construction of a Russian school in Yerevan at  the Embassy of the Russian Federation, with potential locations  currently under consideration."

Valentina Matviyenko noted that six states have already joined the  International Organization for the Russian Language, but Armenia has  not yet ratified the relevant agreement. "The Prime Minister promised  to give instructions, to review this issue and to push it forward,"  she said.  "Armenia has demonstrated its interest in expanding and  developing multifaceted bilateral cooperation.  Now it is important  to implement the agreements reached, which we will do," the  Chairperson of the Federation Council concluded.
