ARF announces its intention to protect Armenia`s Declaration of  Independence from encroachment

ArmInfo.  On the 35th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of Armenia, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) bows to the memory of those who died for independence and reaffirms its unwavering dedication to the cause of strengthening the independent Armenias statehood, as  noted in a statement issued by the Supreme Body of the ARF on the  35th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of Armenia.

The political force recalled that on August 23, 1990, in incredibly  challenging conditions, the Supreme Council of Armenia proclaimed the  start of the process of creating our independent statehood. The ARF  added that despite political disagreements, the Declaration of  Independence was adopted with the participation and unity of almost  all parliamentary and extra-parliamentary forces and enshrined the  political, historical, legal, economic and cultural pillars of  restoring independent Armenian statehood. "A year later, on September  21, 1991, independence was established by the will and unity of the  people. The declaration became the basis of our statehood legislation   and found a worthy place in the preamble of the Constitution of  Armenia, as the value axis of the new independent state, which is not  subject to change.

The path to independence was not easy. In Armenia, Artsakh and the  Diaspora, our people bore the burden of war, socio-economic  difficulties, withstood trials and defended independence at the cost  of thousands of martyrs. In recent years, especially after 2018, the  foundations of our statehood and the provisions enshrined in the  Declaration of Independence have been undermined one after another.  In response to hostile demands to exclude the Declaration of  Independence from the preamble of the Constitution of the Republic of  Armenia, the current authorities of the Republic of Armenia announced  the launch of the process of amending the RA Constitution," the ARF  recalled. The party emphasized that the Declaration of Independence  is the foundation of Armenian unity, defining the essence of the  Armenian state and pan- Armenian commitment.

"It is our birth certificate, and any attack on it is an attack on  the foundations of statehood. Therefore, regardless of our political  preferences and disagreements, our duty is to protect the Declaration  from all kinds of encroachment. Remaining faithful to the idea of  independence and the national goals embedded in it, we must find the  strength to reject anti-state and anti-national authorities,  reaffirming our aspiration to live freely and the will to build an  independent, sovereign, democratic and legal state. This is the  guarantee of the viability of our state in a peaceful and secure  future.
