
ArmInfo. Yerevan Book Fest (YBF) closed its 8th page, naming the best Armenian prose writers, poets, playwrights and authors of children's literature this year.
The closing ceremony of Armenia's most significant literary event took place in the hall of the State Musical Comedy Theater named after A. Paronyan on September 7.
Along with the award ceremony for the best writers, poets and playwrights of Armenia, the evening featured literary readings of works by contemporary Armenian authors and dance performances. The festival's closure was honored by the presence of Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Daniel Danielyan.
In addition to the national award, the results of the William Saroyan International Short Story Competition held in cooperation with the Saroyan Foundation, were announced that same evening. A total of 108 writers from 25 countries submitted applications - Malta, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia, the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Russia, Nigeria and others. A total of 361 applications were submitted for participation in the national competition, of which 212 met the criteria. The overwhelming majority - 88 - were in the category of "Poetry", 86 in "Prose", 26 in "Children's and Youth Literature" and 12 in "Drama".
Note that famous writers, literary critics and publishers from Armenia, Great Britain, Italy, Latvia, Georgia, Russia, the Czech Republic, Greece, the Netherlands, Iran, and the USA took part in the Yerevan International Book Festival. At the book fair held on Republic Square, book lovers had the opportunity to purchase books at special discounts from more than 50 publishing houses, museums, libraries, and cultural and educational institutions.
It is worth noting that this year Yerevan Book Fest will expand its reach to include the Shirak and Syunik regions. Specifically, the festival will be held in Gyumri on September 28 and in Kapan on October 4.
