
ArmInfo. Queen Mathilde of Belgium is on a working visit to Armenia. Her Majesty was received by RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan on October 14. According to the presidential press service, Vahagn Khachaturyan welcomed the Queen's visit to Armenia and highly appreciated Her Majesty's leadership as an advocate of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
"It is a great honor for us to host you. The purpose of your visit, the promotion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, will undoubtedly be of great benefit to the Republic of Armenia, enabling us to fully fulfill our commitments by 2030. We highly appreciate your leadership in this area and your work in addressing such important issues of concern to humanity," the RA President said.
In turn, Queen Mathilde expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that she was impressed by Armenia and was pleased to be in Yerevan on the occasion of the promotion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. During the meeting, programs implemented within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the steps being taken to advance them were discussed. The parties emphasized the role of education as a pillar in overcoming universal humanitarian challenges and sustainable development of societies. During the conversation, bilateral relations between Armenia and Belgium were addressed. The importance of expanding cooperation in the high-tech sector, promoting innovative solutions, and implementing joint initiatives was highlightged.
Vahagn Khachaturyan noted that the partnership between Armenia and Belgium, based on mutual trust, can take on new dimensions in science, education, and digital technology. The parties exchanged views on hosting the Conference of the Parties on Biodiversity and the European Political Community Summit in Armenia in 2026. In this context, it was noted that Armenia takes a highly responsible approach to international environmental initiatives and strives to be an active participant in global efforts to overcome environmental challenges. The need to unite all of humanity in preserving biodiversity and ensuring environmental sustainability was emphasized.
During the meeting, the importance of efforts aimed at establishing peace in the region was also touched upon. The parties emphasized that peace and cooperation are key values in international relations, and their strengthening is the primary condition for the progress of states and peoples.
